Kommetjie accommodation

Individual Davis programmes
Kommetjie is a peaceful little holiday and surfing village less than an hour's drive from central Cape Town and the airport. The accommodation choices highlighted below are some of the places our previous clients have chosen in the area. There is a lot of holiday accommodation available in the village, because possibly as much as a third of all homes in Kommetjie are holiday homes.

There are a number of options within five minute walk from Gifted Dyslexic, and for meals there are a few little restaurants within short walking distance, as well as a small grocery store. The nearest proper shopping mall is about 10 minute drive away. Please note that most restaurants in the area are closed on Monday, and some on Tuesdays as well.

The Kommetjie Accommodation website has lovely and well presented information about the village and the surrounding area.

Home away from home. For individual intervention, you may be able to stay in our house in a self-contained, one-bedroom self-catering Airbnb flat for about R750 per night, where four can sleep in comfort (this option is ufortunately currently not available).

Peaceful Kom is a small self-contained self-catering flat only two houses away, with one double bed. We get very good reports about this accommodation. This costs about the same as our own flat.

Guinea Fowl House is about five minute walk from Gifted Dyslexic
, and several of our clients have stayed there. The reports we get have been very positive, though the owner has mentioned that very hyperactive children can cause problems with other guests. About R1,000 for a single person  with breakfast included.

The House of Braganza is very close to Gifted Dyslexic. They charge reasonable prices (less  than R 1,000 per night in high season). It is less than 2 minute walk from the wonderful Kommetjie beach.

5 Pelican Place
is a self-catering family guesthouse at Long Beach, Kommetjie, sleeping 2-6 people in a choice of two garden apartments, practically on Kommetjie beach. Pelican Place is about 5 minute walk from Gifted Dyslexic.
Prices range from R500 per night (low season) for a unit sleeping two (very small), to R1,500 (high season) for a unit sleeping up to 6.

Klein Slangkop Guesthouse is within easy 5-10 minute walking distance from Gifted Dyslexic. This guesthouse offers beautiful views over the beach and Chapman's Peak, and is situated in a fairly newly built security estate. If several people are sharing self catering, it could be an option with prices of less than R1,000 per person.

Imhoff Park is a caravan park in Kommetjie with some small chalets at a very reasonable price, on its caravan/camping site. It is about 5 minute walk from Gifted Dyslexic.

We will be adding more choices as we go along, but you could also look for yourself on the following sites:

Airport transfers

We do not have any business arrangement with the below companies apart from having used each of them at least once and had a positive experience.

Mzantsi Transfers and Tours: Lizo Jack on 082 956 5186. This is the airport transit company which we use for ourselves. Very reliable for a flat fee of around R400. Other services should be at a similar price.

Noordhoek Taxi, 071 234 7021: flat fee of around R400 for airport pick-up, even when shared between up to eight people.

Mark Bayman airport transfers: Mark Bayman on 082 469 1783.

Seascape Tours: 083 412 3275 (Dot), 082 499 6040 (Tim).

Yusuf taxi service: 078 208 6622.

Alternatively, you could rent a car at the airport, which might be a very good idea, as the Cape has a lot to offer in terms of tourist attractions.

DDAAfrica runs training and workshops on our premises. When we have a small workshop, we tend to run it at our offices, but when the numbers go over 12 we have generally used Living Hope Campus, about 5km distance from our offices, so for the workshops we would advice renting a car if you are staying in Kommetjie. If we have a number of participants from afar staying in Kommetjie, we may well organize a shuttle bus between the village and the venue each day.

Villekulla Easy Living Lodge is about half-way between the GD offices and Living Hope Campus, where we run our training workshops. They offer a rustic good value accommodation, as long as you are not looking for luxury. For meals there are a couple of cafes close by, and a lovely greengrocer next door offering freshly pressed juices and a range of groceries.

Makapa Lodge is within 10 minute walking distance from Living Way Campus, and this could be a good option if you want a bit more luxurious accommodation than Villekulla Lodge.

Below you can see a map of the area close to Living Hope Campus, where we tend to run our Gift of Dyslexia workshop. The Gifted Dyslexic office, where you would come for a one-to-one intervention, is at 2 Heron Circle in Kommetjie.
